Polyacrylonitrile (PAN), of the general formula (C3H3N)n, is a polymer obtained mainly by the polymerization of the vinyl monomer acrylonitrile (C3H3N).

Among its main features is the versatility of being able to be chemically modified and produce the most diverse types of materials, such as carbon fiber, adhesives, engineering plastics, superabsorbent polymers, fibers, viscous fluids, filtration membranes.
